My visit to De Clieu this morning took place relatively early (8:30am), but the cafe was over half full with dining patrons and takeaway coffee customers. My choice from the menu was the beetroot-cured salmon with polenta chips, truffled cauliflower purée, herb yoghurt and wasabi salt. The combination of flavours was delicious and the heavier elements, such as the dense polenta and creamy truffled cauliflower purée, were nicely balanced with the freshness of the herb yoghurt and lightness from the salmon. This as all lifted by the wasabi salt, which...

I was after baked eggs today and an early finish provided the opportunity to satisfy my craving. The baked egg daily specials were the vegetarian option of miso eggplant, tofu and noodles and the non-vegetarian option of lemon and herb chicken with potatoes. Part of the eggs were slightly overdone, but I still enjoyed the dish. The herbs, including the parsley on top, helped lift the flavour. It was a very substantial version of baked eggs, and that at only $15. [caption id="attachment_5224" align="aligncenter" width="1300"] Baked Eggs w. Lemon...

Young Bloods Diner is a modern and open space serving (an all-day) breakfast and brunch with a rooftop bar. They were still serving their spring menu when I visited so I was able to try their Roasted Cauliflower Salad with ocean trout and hazelnuts ($15). Fresh and light, with tender and well-seasoned cauliflower, nicely cooked trout and a creamy cauliflower puree, the salad was a joy to eat....

We arrived at around 10:30am on a weekday, and despite the cloudy and slightly drizzly weather, it was quite busy. I ordered the Dukkah eggs - mushrooms, spinach, feta with poached eggs and dukkah on multigrain sourdough bread ($15.5). Tasty mushroom plus runny eggs and good bread made this dish quite enjoyable. The pulled pork sandwich (BBQ braised berkshire pork shoulder with red cabbage slaw on brioche, $14) was also nice, though A2 thought the pulled lamb sandwich from their previous menu may have been better. Red Robyn is a unique cafe that aims to cater for people with food intolerances. All their dishes are gluten and soy free and their menu comes complete with a handy legend denoting which menu items would be suitable for various diets. Car parking was plentiful, especially with the council building across the road. A2 went for something on the lunch menu. Her veggie stack consisted of a sweet potato rosti, zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, mushroom, balsamic reduction, pepita seed pesto and roquette ($16.50). She particularly enjoyed the sweet potato rosti. I had...
