I picked Pepper Lunch as the place to go as a sort of post-exam 'celebration'. Also because I happened to get a $5-off coupon from the back of my grocery receipt. With an already wide expanse of stores overseas, Pepper Lunch arrived on Australian shores not too long ago. Ingredients for the order are assembled on hot plates, but the rest of the cooking is controlled by the customer. The DIY concept is an interesting one - customers can't complain their food is under- or overdone! Shortly after placing...

With a fortnightly rotating menu featuring a different cuisine each time, Crabapple Kitchen's Friday Night Flights have been something I've been wanting to try for a looong time. Sadly, after I missed out on Valencia in March, which included both paella AND arroz negra, I've been waiting for another Spanish flight and there happened to be one scheduled (a few weeks) after my birthday! The multi-course dinner is $45 and the beverage package (a cocktail and two glasses of wine) can be added on for another $35. Their...

When I perused the menu a few weeks ago there was only one dish I was interested in trying, which was the smoked salmon omelette. After contacting the cafe and being informed that they have an all-day breakfast I settled on trying my dish of choice at a lunchtime. I'd originally planned to visit two weeks ago, but things came up unexpectedly so I had to postpone it by a week. The week after that, something else happened which left me without transport and so had to postpone...

It's the pre-June rush-to-use-up-all-the-Entertainment-Book-vouchers time again. I created a custom spud using a base of sweet potato and toppings of warm braised pulled lamb shoulder, spinach, quinoa mix, broccoli and pumpkin. The base price of the potato is $4.90, meat toppings are $3 and most others are $1 each. There's also condiments at the cashier where you can add salt, pepper, chilli flakes and sauces. A new batch of sweet potato had finished cooking right before our order so they were piping hot. The pumpkin was cooked but the...
