Located right at the southern end of Glenferrie Road, Wa Modern has been serving contemporary Japanese food since July last year. They also has a special lunch menu, though the dinner menu, which is mainly designed for sharing, is still available during lunchtime.

Wa Roll - Julienned Daikon, White Fish, Tuna, Avocado, Coriander, Salmon $18

Filled with lots of fresh seafood and combined with coriander, avocado and a touch of Kewpie mayo, the Wa Roll was one of the nicer sushi rolls I’ve had in a while.

Spicy Chicken Ramen Salad - Steamed Chicken, Green Salad, Ramen Noodles, Spicy Sesame Dressing $20

I didn’t try much of K’s Spicy Chicken Ramen Salad, but she really enjoyed it and found it very refreshing. The spicy sesame dressing gave it a bit of a kick and the pieces of chicken breast were still tender.

Wa Modern (24) Salmon Aburi Sushi - Teriyaki Balsamic, Salt and Lemon, Mayonnaise, Sweet Miso $15

I picked the Salmon Aburi Sushi, which I loved. The salmon was so smooth and silky and the variety of sauces allowed me to enjoy it in four different ways – teriyaki balsamic, salt and lemon, mayonnaise, and sweet miso, of which the sweet miso was my favourite.

Wa Modern left a good impression on me. If I’m ever in the mood for Japanese when I’m in the area, this is certainly a place I’ll keep in mind.
