Dinner at the hotel consisted of a salad with light dressing, grilled and lightly battered Parnasius fillet (a type of fish) in a creamy/cheese sauce (though the menu said light lemon dressing) and a piece of apple strudel with hot vanilla sauce. The pastry in the strudel was a bit too thick and it wasn’t hot; there were also raisins in it, so I didn’t finish mine. Halfway through our bus drive from Germany to Switzerland we stopped at the House of Black Forest Clocks. There were souvenirs, cuckoo clocks, grandfather clocks as well as their famous, and supposedly the original, black forest cake. The owner gave us a free postcard with the cake recipe on the back. The cake had a nice, moist chocolate sponge layer, but I still don’t like glace cherries. [caption id="attachment_2226" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Original Black Forest Cake[/caption]...

For the last 15 minutes of our time in Cologne, we got lunch at a chain bakery called Kamps. A2 had a chicken schnitzel burger/bun, mum had a custard pretzel-shaped pastry, and dad had a cinnamon and apple pastry. I had a roll with huge sunflower seeds (both on top and inside the bread), white ham, mustard, white soft cheese and lettuce (€3 something). A2 and I also shared a triangular shaped sweet bun with spots of cinnamon and a crunchy crust (€0.79). [caption id="attachment_2223" align="aligncenter" width="400"] Custard Pretzel...

After walking around Amsterdam by ourselves, we returned to the hotel for our included hotel dinner. The entrée was a salmon mixture, which may have had chopped pickle, onion and sour cream/natural yoghurt. The main dish was chicken schnitzel and grilled/roast vegetables like zucchini, capsicum, onion and eggplant (though sadly I didn’t get any eggplant). Dessert was just ice cream with chocolate sauce and an Argentinean cherry (also known as a gooseberry), which was yellow and had three leaves on the stem.
