It's a quiet street, mostly occupied by apartment blocks and Melbourne High a bit further north, but a stone's throw away from South yarra station is Sth Central, an 8-month old eatery, and the first restaurant from the Tommy Collins group. Sth Central has separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, which includes dishes from their Inka charcoal oven from lunchtime. For dinner, there's a large selection of starters, mains and sides to mix and match, though there's a particular focus on proteins....

Cosi has plenty of regulars, who even chat the whole day away from early afternoon till dinnertime. We weren't planning on staying quite that long, but we did drop by for a long lunch. We start with the Quail Ravioli. Cafe AMBA is a Chapel Street newbie, opening in January this year. The snazzy interior is full of exposed brick and pale timbers, and the cafe also boasts a courtyard area and upstairs function space. Right on the edges of South Yarra, Ichi Ichi Ku has been an often-talked about Japanese restaurant that seems to be a favourite amongst many. They serve a Japanese-influenced breakfast menu in the mornings, but we visit for lunch. The interior is small, very cosy, and has an authentic izakaya type vibe. It’s not quite as sweet as others I’ve tried, and there is a nice...

Café de la Ville portrays a certain elegance through its marble-patterned tables, decorative blue and white wallpaper and a contrasting dark and light theme with accents of gold, and a position near the intersection between Chapel St and Toorak Road seems like the perfect place for a French café. [caption id="attachment_11791" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Mini sausage rolls, spinach and ricotta rolls, mini baguettes with poached chicken, slow roasted tomatoes, shredded carrot, fresh herbs, citrus mayo[/caption] Here you can indulge yourself with brunch, desserts and pastries, or maybe some bready things like...
