It’s a quiet street, mostly occupied by apartment blocks and Melbourne High a bit further north, but a stone’s throw away from South yarra station is Sth Central, an 8-month old eatery, and the first restaurant from the Tommy Collins group. Sth Central has separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, which includes dishes from their Inka charcoal oven from lunchtime. For dinner, there’s a large selection of starters, mains and sides to mix and match, though there’s a particular focus on proteins.

Dropping in for breakfast, I couldn’t go past the Breakfast Gnocchi. Smoked salmon tartare and capers were piled on top of grated beetroot, surrounded by cheesy, salted pillows of gnocchi. The pan-fried gnocchi were crispy, and the salmon was seasoned well, delivering peppery kicks that were rounded out by the poached egg. Thoroughly satisfying.

I hope to return for their enticing dinner menu, but if you pop in for breakfast, you’ll even find cocktails sitting alongside the coffee, tea and smoothies. Why not.
