Takumi has gotten very good reviews and after walking past it the other day my interest was piqued. I was the only one inside the restaurant when I entered just before 1pm, but even as people started coming in, service was very polite and attentive. I also noticed that whilst the chopsticks were the disposable, split-apart type, they were made of a smoother, darker wood that had a quality feel to them. White Tomato has a lunch special where everything on the menu is $11.50 and comes with steamed rice and mixed salad. Heirloom is quite a modern and snazzy restaurant/bar on Bourke St, right opposite the tramstop between Russell and Exhibition St. I came for a late lunch and was told the daily lunch special ($14.5) had sold out, which was fine; I had planned to have the chirashi zuchi and udon set ($22.5).   The serving size was larger than I expected, which is always good, though I immediately regretted eating that persimmon for morning tea. [gallery type="rectangular" ids="3399,3401,3402"] The salmon soba salad ($18) came with 5 lightly seared pieces of salmon, basil sauce, salad leaves and a small amount of broth at the base. I wasn't too sure about the raw onion because it seemed to overpower the flavour of the soba (and also because there was one rather large slice of onion in my plate), but overall it was a simple and tasty lunch. This visit was with mum, who ordered the spicy pork dosirak. I went with kimchi udon. I can't remember which one was $11 and which was $13.
