13 Oct YOI, Melbourne CBD
Replacing Andrew’s Hamburgers CBD outlet, YOI brings a completely different cuisine to this little cluster of restaurants on Franklin Street.
Salted Egg Chicken is one of their signatures, and we choose to try it with rice today. The fried chicken is glazed with a signature sauce that has a good amount of salted egg flavour.
Their take on the Gyutan Don sees marinated stir-fried beef tongue paired with chilli and spring onions. It sure provides a powerful chilli hit, especially if you add extra Balinese-style sambal. You’ll want to eat the rice underneath, both to tame the heat, and also to enjoy the sauce and dressing that has coated the grains.
The peanut-packed Sweet Martabak is a great end to a solid meal at YOI, but it seems some customers just come in for it too. The spongy martabak can be filled with one or two fillings including chocolate, Oreos and peanuts.
The food at YOI is very reasonably priced and flavoursome. Would recommend giving it a try!
