Whilst Pope Joan has sadly had its final hurrah, we can still get a taste of Matt Wilkinson at The Pie Shop just a few doors down. The tiny little place really only has seating in the open space on the side, but most people seem to come for takeaway.
Crispy shortcrust pastry coddles tasty fillings like curried turkey, spag bol, or the classic chunky beef and veg of The Allen, which is my personal favourite. One special for their first birthday was The Rita – Matt’s apple pie.
Family-sized versions of a few of the savoury pies can be taken home, and larger dessert pies can be ordered ahead too. The Pie Shop injects a bit of gourmet into the humble pie.
