11 Aug The Black Toro, Windsor
The Black Toro has now opened a second location in Windsor, bringing its modern Mexican to Chapel Street. Our tasting menu experience starts off with corn chips and silky smooth Guacamole, and the Wood Grilled Corn, which is enticingly smokey and topped with savoury queso fresco.
There are quite a few tostadas and tacos to choose from. Tacos include the Soy Marinated Tuna with avocado, salsa macha, sunflower seeds and radish, and the super fresh-tasting lime-cured Kingfish Ceviche with guacamole and toasted peanut slaw, contrasting with the acidic tangy mayo in the Prawn Tostada with poached prawn, lime cream, fennel salad and Tapatio hot sauce.
The Fish Tempura Taco with chipotle mayonnaise and shaved cabbage is amongst the best fish tacos I’ve had. The fish is succulent, and the batter light and crispy. The Pork Chinita Taco is a filling one, and the tender BBQ pork is matched with quite a spicy hot sauce.
If you like a bit of sweet in your mains, the melt-in-your-mouth BBQ Beef Short Rib might be up your alley, being teamed with a corn salsa and corn puree.
The Churro Taco is our sweet conclusion to a satisfying meal. A disc-shaped churro holds a scooped of malted milk ice cream, and drizzled over with salted caramel.
The Windsor restaurant has brought along some favourites from Glen Waverley and also introduced some new dishes into the mix. It’s a nice to have access to Black Toro’s Mexican a little closer to home.
