It’s a dream pairing, gelato and cake. Sandra Foti (Piccolina) and Bernard Chu (LuxBite) partnered up to create a small range of gelato cakes, and after eight months of development they were made available to the public late last year.
All look stunning, but the Ferrerolina Rocher is the one that really tickles our fancy. Looking like a giant Ferrero Rocher, the dome-shaped Ferrerolina Rocher contains thick layers of Piccolina’s Hazelnut and Better Than Nut’ella gelato, coated in a mixture of milk chocolate and puffed rice, which mimics the wafer layer of the Ferrero Rocher. This is then covered with milk chocolate gelato, then a shell of dark chocolate and roasted hazelnut pieces. Gold flakes complete the look, and are thankfully edible, unlike foil wrapper. The combination of gelato flavours and crunchy textures makes this a gelato and chocolate-lover’s dream. They say it serves 12-14 people, but we happily kept this one to ourselves.
The Piccolina x Luxbite gelato cakes can be pre-ordered from Piccolina’s store in Hawthorn, but there are also a few spare in the fridge if you’re after unplanned indulgence.
