29 May Palate, Prahran
Taking its place on the village-like Greville St, Palate is a health-focused cafe whose big drawcard are the paleo-focused options. Though not completely paleo (there are, for example, pancakes and regular bread on the menu), the vast majority of lunch menu items will please those pursuing the paleo lifestyle.
Paleo or not, I love cauliflower. After a few attempts at making cauliflower rice at home, I was curious to see how Palate handled their cauliflower risotto. The risotto was full of zucchini, bacon, eggplant, pumpkin and tomato, plus some extra chicken. For something named ‘cauliflower rice risotto’, there wasn’t actually that much of it and the other ingredients were more prominent. I did, however, enjoy the browned vegetables and tender cauliflower rice, which was tasty though perhaps a bit oversalted.
You don’t have to be a paleo eater to appreciate the food Palate pumps out, and the busyness of the cafe is a testament to that.
