03 Nov Mocha Jo’s Burger Bar, Glen Waverley
Take a walk down the street alongside Mocha Jo’s and you’ll come across a little window covered by a red and white awning. This is Mocha Jo’s Burger Bar, now celebrating its first birthday. It’s easily missed, and could be mistaken for an open kitchen for the main cafe, but this is a space dedicated to pumping out burgers, hot dogs and other American treats.
Wash it down with American-style shakes, beers and sodas. Take a pick from the burger and hot dog menu, or load them up with extras as high as you’d like. Anything with fried chicken is a popular pick, but so is the Texan with its wagyu pattie, double cheese, bacon, jalapenos, onion rings and Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce. Another eye-catching choice is the panko-crumbed mac n cheese pattie paired with a wagyu one. I personally find the brown onion jam a bit sweet, but the mac n cheese is a guilty pleasure, and though the 600 day grass-fed wagyu patty isn’t pink, it’s still very juicy. We also indulge in sides including popcorn chicken and loaded chips of the pizza and American variety. My pick would be the American loaded chips for its mustard kick, and of course, I can’t go past sweet potato chips.
Waffles feature heavily in the sweet options, though there are also the fluffy hot jam donuts. Enjoy your crunchy waffles drenched in cinnamon sugar, or as a s’mores sandwich with Nutella and melting marshmallows.
Pop down to MJ’s Burger Bar for quality burgers, lunch and dinner. It’s all outdoors seating at the moment, but there are plans for some extra shelter, and summer is on the way.
