04 Jul Guerilla Espresso, Footscray
Taking its place in a little spot opposite Footscray station, Guerrila Espresso’s main focus is coffee, a godsend for workers hurrying to and from the train. There are more seats outside than there are indoors – only four stools are available to perch on at the window, with the majority of the floor space being dedicated to the coffee machine, front counter and kitchenette.
The main reason for my visit was for the truffle toastie; a limited edition item only making an appearance around June/July during truffle season. This year, Guerilla Espresso’s truffle toasties come with watercress and both mozzarella and gruyere, sandwiched between two slices of ciabatta. The earthy fragrance of the truffle specks and oozy, stringing cheese made it a satisfying feed for a chilly day. I’ve heard good things about their pork buns, part of their succinct but tasty-sounding regular menu, which you can indulge on when truffle season has sadly ended.
