17 Dec Constancia, Traralgon
We decided to take a short trip up to Traralgon to celebrate the end of our rural rotation, and seeming like one of the local favourites, Constancia looked like a good pick.
Two Way Duck – Slow Cooked Spiced Leg and Oven Roasted Breast, Stir Fry of Baby Corn, Shiitake Mushroom, Chinese Cabbage, Crispy Egg Noodles ($36)
Seafood Linguini, Chilli, Garlic, Herbs ($29)
Constancia offers Mediterranean cuisine, and my choice tonight was the pork saltimbocca with apple jus, sprouts, Chinese sauce and a long strip of roast pork belly. I wasn’t too sure about the Chinese sausage. It added an unnecessary sweetness to the pork, and a flavour that didn’t quite seem to blend in as a whole. but then again, I’ve never really liked lap cheong. It was otherwise a decent and flavoursome dish.
The gnocchi with pan seared scallops, black baslsamic onions and goats cheese was also rather good and would have been my second choice had I not gone for the saltimbocca. Overall we had a pleasant time at Constancia, and it’s always a pleasure to find a decent feed when away from home.
