01 Oct Cloudy Bay 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Launch at The Botanical, South Yarra

I was recently invited to celebrate Cloudy Bay’s 30th anniversary and the launch of their new 2015 vintage Sauvignon Blanc. Cloudy Bay Vineyards is situted in the famed Marlborough wine region of New Zealand, and their Sauvignon Blanc is one they take particular pride in.

On arrival, we were greeted with some of Cloudy Bay’s Pelorus, a crisp and citrusy sparkling white.

Jim White, Cloudy Bay’s viticulturist, then introduced the new Sauvignon Blanc and explained how various stations had been set up around the room to educate and enhance our experience of the wine. Blood oranges, lemongrass and kaffir lime had been set out to reflect the flavours and aromas found in their flagship wine. Every sip of this Sauvignon Blanc was a delight.

Asparagus Cream with Sugared Nuts

Soon streaming from the kitchen came a large selection of canapes, created by head chef Arnaud Pelligrino. We especially enjoyed the flavoursome ocean trout tartare with crunchy croutons, the goats cheese nougat on rye, and the decadently buttery oysters Rockefeller.
