Cutler & Co, Andrew McConnell's flagship restaurant, first opened in 2009 and has been converted from an old metal works factory. The restaurant actually had a more casual atmosphere than I expected, with bar seating, a lounge area on the side, and more tables, including banquette seating, towards the back. We had come to try their $130pp 6 course degustation menu, so ordering was quick and easy. Horse Bazaar is an casual izakaya on Little Lonsdale St, and it's just celebrated its 10th birthday. Only one door down from the Hardware Street junction, it offers cocktails, beers, ciders, wines, spirits and special Japanese imports. In terms of food, there's Japanese tapas to go along with the drinks, though there's mains to feast on too. It doubles as a small event space, hosting things such as live music, hip hop open mic nights and storytelling. Every weeknight there's a food special on. You might come in for...

The Town Mouse has been with us for over two years, taking over the small Carlton venue that was once Embrasse. The atmosphere is dark but cosy with high stools, classy, glossy black tiling, and terrazzo flooring....

As one of the original tenants that opened its doors along with the launch of Emporium, New Shanghai's reputation for its dumplings has steadily grown. Dumplings being formed by the front window draws in the crowds, and also serves as a distraction whilst waiting for a table to free up. We arrived early, making a mistake with its opening hours, but there were already a few others standing eagerly by the entrance. The interior is bright and casual. Its paintwork and decor creates an atmosphere that's meant to transport...

After many, many years, I finally made it around to Moroccan Soup Bar. I'd heard there are normally crazy queues, especially on Fridays and weekends, but I think today the cold and wet weather got the better of most people, and though it was still full, there wasn't a line at the time we came. We'd made a booking to be safe, since we just made the minimum requirement of six people. It's a spoken menu here, and most people go with the banquet. There's a choice of either...
