Gough Amontha and Sutinee Suntivatana made the move from Hobart to Melbourne, transforming what was once a motorcycle shop into this newly opened cafe. The concrete floor and white tiles are spruced up with a vibrant and colourful painted wall full of blues, greens and yellows. It's relaxed, fun and unpretentious inside....

This little organic Japanese cafe was previously Disco Beans, before renaming itself to Spiral Beans after beginning its collaboration with Spiral Foods. Their focus is on the limitation of processed elements, and using seasonal, organic produce to make dishes that are balanced in taste and nutrients....

Back when I started university, I made a list of potential cafes to visit during my breaks, dreaming all the food adventures I could undertake. I find myself here during a catch-up, quite a number of years after making that list. The interior is spacious and stripped back, and splashes of colour on the walls keep it from feeling too sterile....

Adam Pruckner, a Brunswick local and ex-Code black chef, has struck out on his own to open up his own place. Small Axe is co-owned with Jas Singh, and partner Kirstyn Tate. Previously a furniture store, there’s now an espresso bar, a courtyard on the side, and an open-air dining room towards the back. It’s homely inside the long and narrow building, much bigger than expected. Coffee is by Code Black of course....
