This year marks the debut of the Night Noodle Markets in Melbourne, after many years of being run in Hyde Park in Sydney. Following the Night Noodle Markets in Sydney last month, Melbourne's version will run for two weeks, featuring around 30 food stalls. Whilst not quite as expansive as the one in Sydney, it was probably a good number for testing the waters. Knowing that the crowds would eventually make lining up only for the tenacious, we planned to arrive at 5pm. It had been quite a nice,...

After dinner, K and I ventured one block east to try out Gelato Messina. The impressive, modern and sleek shopfront houses a cabinet showcasing around 40 different flavours of gelato and sorbet as well as some of their gelato cakes, such as the Black Forest (as seen on Masterchef) and Dr Evil's Magic Mushroom.  The line wasn't too long when we entered, but after spending some time perusing the varieties on offer, the store was packed. Please also note that state prices reflect those at the time of my visit and may not be current....

I have to confess, I haven't heard much about red chicken (or ayam masak merah) before, so it piqued my interest. Perhaps it isn't a common dish from the part of Malaysia my parents are from. To try something different I had the biryani rice with red chicken and sambal eggplant. Instead of being cooked together, it seemed as if the eggplant had been deep-fried with a light batter then topped with sambal paste, which was particularly obvious when I noticed the sambal only coated some of the surfaces...
