Apt, which was 10km away, to see what was there. There wasn’t much to see but we did pick up something to eat from Banette. Mum and dad shared a veggie pizza (€2.20) and I was tossing up between an olive fougasse, corn bread (€2.50) or ‘mediéval’ bread (€2.50). I noticed that they sold the Provencal miel et amandes as well. In the end I went for the medieval, which has pieces of walnuts and apple and uses chestnut and wheat flour. There wasn’t much walnut in the...

Located in Equitable Pl, which is between Collins and Lt Collins and near Elizabeth St, this small cafe specialises in fugazza. Quoting from their website, "Fugazza recreates traditional Italian baked sandwiches. Our light, tasty focaccia start with artisan sourdough bread, created using a combination of wholemeal, rye and unbleached flour. True to their origins, our sandwiches are baked, not pressed, creating a beautifully light, crisp crust." I got the $10 offer which included a half fugazza (normally $6) plus a soup (normally $6.90 for a regular size). They have 2 soups,...

Generally when I visit Italian restaurants for dinner my choices are limited to either salad or a large piece of meat. Today I opted for the light option of a chicken salad (Grilled Chicken, Lettuce, Tomato, Olives, Cucumber, Red Onions, Balsamic Vinegar and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, $19.90). The salad tasted OK but the chicken breast was overdone. It was expensive for what it was, but I've come to expect that from salads. Walking around Harbourside I noticed a lot of the restaurants had dinner specials on, particularly early dinner specials. Olivo had a $35pp special which consisted of any entree, any main and a drink (including wine). Mum: - Entree: Homemade scallop and barramundi ravioli - Main: Lamb rump with feta, sun-dried tomatoes and oven-roasted potatoes Me: - Entree: Mussels with a tomato based-sauce - Main: Grain-fed eye fillet with sweet-potato mash [gallery order="DESC" link="file" columns="2" ids="2836,2838,2837,2835,2839"] I think I picked the better dish combination, though to be fair, mum only picked the lamb because she'd had the...

I came here for a colleague's farewell, and while the others ordered pizzas, I wasn't able to eat it so I ordered a main instead: lamb back strap, tomato pâté, olive tapenade, baby eggplant, candy peppers. It took quite a long time to arrive - apparently it had been given to the wrong table even though they hadn't ordered it. I saw photos of this dish online and they showed two giant pieces of eggplant, presumably both sides of a whole, however, mine was only half of a skinny...
