10 Jan Bread, Carpentras
We were in Carpentras to have a look at their Friday morning market, which had been set up all over city. I bought some organic quinoa bread (€2.90). It was quite dense and heavy. Mum didn’t like it because the sourdough taste was very strong. There wasn’t actually much quinoa in it – maybe 1-2 grains every 2cm3. I think it would be nice toasted though, and it’s a nice munching bread. The quinoa grains (when you find them) give it an occasional flavour pop.
Later we passed a popular little bakery where I bought an olive fougasse (€2.30). They also had a chorizo fougasse and sundried tomato one. The olives were juicy and fresh and the bread sometimes had a slight peppery taste. Compared to regular bread, fougasse seems to have more of a pizza dough sort of texture, which is more apparent around the crust of the bread.
