Brenton Lang (Rustica Sourdough), Tristan White (ex-Head Chef of Ladro and Touchwood), and Matt Vero (Coin Laundry, Tall Timber, Touchwood, The Marquis of Lorne Hotel) have combined forces to set up Rustica Canteen. It takes on an industrial theme, going for a darker colour scheme with plenty of timber. Its drawcards are the delectable pastries a-la Rustica Sourdough on display at the counter, fresh bread available for purchase, and of course being a 'canteen', the food. Sandwiches will change every now and then, and will be filled with plenty...

After some unexpected delays, Frankie Says is finally open for business. Part of the new, aptly named Sanctuary apartment complex, it's hidden away, right by the Yarra with pleasant and peaceful view of both trees and water. There's plenty of outdoors seating under the cover of umbrellas, and the interior features high-ceiling solid timber pillars, white washed timber, striking pendant lights and full-height glass windows to allow plenty of light in.   [caption id="attachment_10775" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Antipasto - Bocconcini, Semi Sundried Tomatoes, Speck Prosciutto, Bresaola, Sopressa Salami, Giardiniera, Marinated Olives,...

In a somewhat unlikely location sits a hotel created by the Get Notorious group. The idea behind it is glamping, or 'glamorous camping', in the middle of the Melbourne CBD. Unlike many hotels, the esky's contents of local...

Dropping into Salona for a quick meal on the way home, I ordered a beef souvlona. A mix between a burger and souvlaki, souvlonas are a Salona creation. The thin beef patty was accented with saganaki, capers, mustard tzatziki and cos lettuce, all wrapped up in satisfyingly toasty and fluffy pita bread. To go with it were some super crunchy spiced chips. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the souvlona. Although I would have liked the patty to be a little more moist, the flavour combination was tasty. [caption...

Not to be confused with the Carlton side of Lygon street, The B-East is to be found in Brunswick East (get it?). Far from being just a burger joint, it's also a bar and live music venue, open until late every day. Offerings include burgers, sliders and subs, along with fries, American-style sides like hickory smoked corn, mac 'n' cheese bombs and corn bread, and salad to make us all feel better. Brioche is the bread of choice here, but rye and gluten free options are available too. [caption...
