After our hot pot dinner we decided to head out to Monga Sweet Cafe on Russell St for dessert. Monga Sweet Cafe is a sister store to Dessert Lounge in Box Hill, which was popular among a number of people in the group. The decor was very Asian-inspired, down to the red, plastic stools and Chinese calendar (the one with the date in giant figures and a lot of information that I can't understand). I can't say much about the desserts themselves, seeing as I didn't taste any of them....

Given today's terrible, cold, windy and extremely wet weather, a hot pot dinner sounded like the perfect choice. While we waited for the table to be cleared, we pored over the A3-sized paper menu and picked our hot pot ingredients, soup bases and individual dipping sauces. A2 and I took a trip to Grill'd to use an Entertainment Book voucher before it expired. A2 ordered a Garden Goodness veggie burger ($11.50), whilst I decided to go for one of the three new burgers on the menu: Hot Hombre ($12.50). It's a chicken burger with spicy black bean salsa, cheese, avocado, tomato, Spanish onion and a tortilla chip. Off to Zen for Mother's Day, a cosy little Japanese restaurant on Burwood Road. Me - Grilled teriyaki unagi ($23.90) A2 - Miso salmon grilled in foil ($20.90) Mum - Kaiseki bento ($27.90) Dad - Wafu steak ($23.90) There was also a large selection of sake available, and the menu included a short description of each one. The bento box came with miso soup, mixed rice, teriyaki chicken, sesame salad, sashimi, sushi, tempura and ice cream (a choice of sesame, green tea or vanilla). A2 said her salmon was tasteless.
