A visit to a café in South Melbourne was followed by a drop-in to Agathe Patisserie at the South Melbourne markets, and the enticing smell of butter filled the car on the way home. [caption id="attachment_11908" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Plain Croissant ($5)[/caption] We bought two croissants that day. I was hoping for a pandan croissant, but there weren’t any available on our visit. The plain croissant had a good, crispy and flaky shell, and the airy, spiraling interior was tender, stretchy and moist, not doughy. The rich fragrance of butter was...

Bibelot: a small object of curiosity, beauty or desire. There are plenty of beautiful small objects here, though they’re not ones you’d admire with your eyes only. Bibelot is s an offshoot of Chez Dre, a café whose desserts were so popular that the owners decided it was time to expand. A dessert boutique, Bibelot includes a patisserie, gelateria, coffee bar and chocolate shop. Today’s a time of celebration, and instead of marking the occasion with a birthday cake, we order a Gourmandise Board to indulge in at home....

The Festival Artisan Bakery & Bar was a pop-up set up specially for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. Over 17 days, famous bakers from both Australia and overseas came in to oversee the production of baked goods for us to devour, and enjoy a selection of salads, rolls and boards with wine and coffee. On the first day of the festival I dropped by hoping to grab one of Julian Gellatly's famous salted caramel cream-filled doughnuts, but sadly they'd already sold out by 8:30am. Justin Gellatly is from...

Dex2rose is a new nitrogen gelato place hidden in Racing Club Lane, found between Hardware and Warburton Lane. Originally from a marketing and advertising background, Jesse was inspired to start up his gelato business after spending some time living in the country and yearning for a nice hangout spot other than the local pub. Jesse and his business partner Wei Ming have certainly created quite the hang out spot at Dex2rose. Their somewhat unconventional location in an obscure lane was chosen for a number of reasons, one of which...
