While our parents waiting in line for the ferry to Macau, A2 and I went into the nearby Aji Ichiban – a Japanese small-snack store. A2 bought a pineapple biscuit, a pineapple in green tea biscuit and a chestnut bun. I got a small vacuum pack of roasted goose and a pack of soy quail eggs. The goose tasted a bit like duck but with the texture of pork. [gallery link="none" columns="2" type="rectangular" ids="1787,1788,1790,1789,1826"]...

Margaret’s Café E Nata is one of the two cafés in Macau famous for its Portuguese egg tarts. This small and quaint cafe had one queue for ordering and another for collecting orders that weren’t ready. The tarts were so popular there was almost always a long collection queue - they couldn’t make tarts quickly enough. Each tart was only 8MOP each (just under 1AUD). There are other items on the menu, but the majority of customers buy the tarts with maybe a hot drink. Unless the person was...

Like the McDonald's we went into at Yau Ma Tei, this one was packed and it was difficult to find a seat. McDonald's in HK seems more like a regular (albeit extremely crowded) Melburnian cafe where people meet up and don't always order much. At the Yau Ma Tei McDonald's it seemed like half of the occupants weren’t buying food at all, just using the tables and/or using the free wi-fi. Mum ordered a medium cappuccino for about 3AUD and two red bean pies. The pies didn’t seem as oily...

After our claypot dinner we walked through the flea market and tasted a mango and cream crepe from this rather popular stall. The next day I was passing through the same street and decided to try a meat mince/preserved vegetable bun, which they’re famous for (13HKD) and a red bean “teeth” pastry (6HKD). After dinner we walked to Hakata Station and went around the food level of Hankyu to try food samples and look at their bread and sweets. I love sweet potato, so I was going to get a slice of a sweet potato cake that seemed pretty popular. Dad and I managed to get a sample of before buying it. It was creamier than I imagined it would be so I didn’t get any in the end. One slice was ¥250 and whole cakes were sold by weight. [gallery columns="2"...
