Red Robyn is a unique cafe that aims to cater for people with food intolerances. All their dishes are gluten and soy free and their menu comes complete with a handy legend denoting which menu items would be suitable for various diets. Car parking was plentiful, especially with the council building across the road. A2 went for something on the lunch menu. Her veggie stack consisted of a sweet potato rosti, zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, mushroom, balsamic reduction, pepita seed pesto and roquette ($16.50). She particularly enjoyed the sweet potato rosti. I had...

Collective Espresso is located just off Bourke Road, next to Camberwell Station. Numerous prints lining the walls and the bag hooks for staff give this cafe a warm, homely and welcoming vibe. There are bars seats along the window and near the kitchen, one small table and a long communal table that could accommodate at least 16 people. Today I had the emu burger, which came with cabbage remoulade, cheddar, mustard and pickles on a brioche bun. The tasty emu pattie was slightly dry, particularly around the edges, but the cheddar and...

Ora is a small cafe, known for its good food and coffee. It also has a selection of tasty looking baked goods displayed at the front counter. Unfortunately Ora's popular walnut eggs weren't on the menu, but there were plenty of other intriguing dishes to try, including two specials today. The duck salad special sold out shortly after we arrived.  A2's twice-baked blue cheese souffle was moist and she said it tasted especially good with the fresh salad. The crispy poached egg in the middle was an interesting addition to my veloute,...

Following the Night Noodle Markets in Sydney last month, Melbourne's version will run for two weeks, featuring around 30 food stalls. Whilst not quite as expansive as the one in Sydney, it was probably a good number for testing the waters. Knowing that the crowds would eventually make lining up only for the tenacious, we planned to arrive at 5pm. It had been quite a nice,...

After dinner, K and I ventured one block east to try out Gelato Messina. The impressive, modern and sleek shopfront houses a cabinet showcasing around 40 different flavours of gelato and sorbet as well as some of their gelato cakes, such as the Black Forest (as seen on Masterchef) and Dr Evil's Magic Mushroom.  The line wasn't too long when we entered, but after spending some time perusing the varieties on offer, the store was packed. Fortunately the staff were efficient and the queue was cleared quickly. Both of us...
