My first visit to Convent Bakery in the Abbotsford Convent, despite living around the area for 8 years. I ordered the chicken burger in foccacia bread with capsicum sauce, aioli, tomato & guacamole ($13). I swapped out the chips for salad instead. Mum tried one of the specials of the day, which was porterhouse steak ($15). It was quite a busy place, with most people popping in for coffee, bread or other baked goods. My first visit to this restaurant, located where the first site of Sichuan Dining Room (Sichuan Dining Room relocated up the road but has since closed down for good, which is a shame). No special occasion; mum couldn't be bothered cooking today. The tofu dish was quite nice and may be worth attempting at home; the egg yolk in the sauce made it taste so much better than if it weren't added. My second visit to Tao's. The six-course set lunch (the only thing available) was $38 as opposed to $58 for a seven-course dinner. The selection of dishes available for lunch was slightly more limited, but those not included for lunch were dishes we'd tried previously anyway. The lunch menu was pretty much the same as my previous dinner visit, minus the chawanmushi. Since having that amazing kangaroo steak in Broken Hill, I'd been longing to have a similar experience elsewhere. Sadly, this one wasn't quite up to that standard, but it was still pretty good.
