Off to Zen for Mother's Day, a cosy little Japanese restaurant on Burwood Road. Me - Grilled teriyaki unagi ($23.90) A2 - Miso salmon grilled in foil ($20.90) Mum - Kaiseki bento ($27.90) Dad - Wafu steak ($23.90) There was also a large selection of sake available, and the menu included a short description of each one. The bento box came with miso soup, mixed rice, teriyaki chicken, sesame salad, sashimi, sushi, tempura and ice cream (a choice of sesame, green tea or vanilla). A2 said her salmon was tasteless. This place just opened nearby, so we went to check it out. Mum's been here before so she knew what to order. This is what we shared: - Large Beef Pho ($9.50) - Special Broken Rice w. Pork, Egg, Vermicelli-Fungus-Pork Meatloaf, Julienned Chicken etc. ($10) We accidentally ordered the char-grilled chicken broken rice instead of the special broken rice and didn't realise until it arrived at the table. Today the Hawthorn Spudbar store had a free upgrade to sweet potato - a saving of $1.80. Both A2 and I got custom-made spuds. Today I visited to the Abbotsford Convent Supper Market, which is held on Friday nights during summer months. There were a few stalls open, which included vendors selling candles, jewellery, organic dried fruits and handmade leather notebooks. Lentils As Anything, Kappaya and Convent Bakery were open and busy with patrons. There weren't as many food stalls as I thought there'd be.
