While our parents waiting in line for the ferry to Macau, A2 and I went into the nearby Aji Ichiban – a Japanese small-snack store. A2 bought a pineapple biscuit, a pineapple in green tea biscuit and a chestnut bun. I got a small vacuum pack of roasted goose and a pack of soy quail eggs. The goose tasted a bit like duck but with the texture of pork. [gallery link="none" columns="2" type="rectangular" ids="1787,1788,1790,1789,1826"]...

Itamae Sushi is a chain sushi restaurant. After taking a ticket we waited maybe 15 minutes in the queue. Luckily we got a spot on the sushi train rather than a separate table. Sushi of the same type were lined up consecutively in the train, rather than arranged alternately - a boon for the indecisive or unobservant. Each person got a cup with a Japanese tea bag inside and between every two people was a hot water tap used to top up our cups. The prices for the sushi...

All the restaurants on level 7 had long queues. We took a ticket for Imasuke and waited over an hour, during which we decided what we were going to order. The food arrived quite quickly so we started eating at around 8:15pm and finished by 9pm, which isn’t terribly late. Mum and dad shared a duck nabeyaki udon (70HKD) and a hotpot with oysters in miso soup (148HKD). The oysters were the biggest oysters I’ve seen so far: slightly smaller than golf balls. A2 and I shared a...

Our last breakfast in Japan. There were salads, a vermicelli/potato/carrot cold stew, teriyaki mackerel, cured salmon, miso, porridge, rice, soft-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, tofu, frankfurts, a nice selection of interesting breads, cereal (corn flakes, chocolate cereal and granola), lychee, oranges and grapefruit. There was a little bowl of bonito next to the tofu too. [gallery order="DESC" columns="2" ids="1523,1525,1526,1527"]...

I’ve heard that the ramen at Ichiran is among the best in Fukuoka and that it had a unique eating experience. I was desperate to try it. We filled out the English order forms at the front, paid for our meal tickets at the machine then waited for some booths to empty out. Luckily it didn’t take long for four seats in a row to become available. All of us had the ramen and a hard-boiled, salted egg (¥790+100). Mum also added in some ‘laver’, which she believes...
