Behold their ugliness! The last time I baked was the last time I baked this shortbread, and the last time I made this shortbread was nearly two years ago. Therein lies the evidence of my enthusiasm for baking. Some of the biscuits look more like overcooked pikelets due to my household's lack of circular cookie cutters. I suppose they'd taste the same no matter what shape they were, but perhaps it may be worth investing in some cutters for the sake of presentation. This time I tried the beef filling in soft tacos. Not that it was bad, but I think I like the pork better. The picante sauce was the hottest salsa they have available. While it did make me a bit sniffly it wasn't incredibly spicy. The tacos were messier to eat than the burritos I had last time and there was sauce going everywhere even with the double taco layers. Off to Errol's for work's Christmas dinner. I ordered the seafood salad ($19.90), consisting of prawns, scallops, mussels and calamari served on a bed of spinach and tomato with a balsamic vinaigrette. It was tasted quite good, however as I neared the bottom of the plate where the salad was more saturated with vinaigrette, the spinach became very salty and I couldn't finish it. My first visit to Convent Bakery in the Abbotsford Convent, despite living around the area for 8 years. I ordered the chicken burger in foccacia bread with capsicum sauce, aioli, tomato & guacamole ($13). I swapped out the chips for salad instead. Mum tried one of the specials of the day, which was porterhouse steak ($15). It was quite a busy place, with most people popping in for coffee, bread or other baked goods. I'm guessing quite a lot of their business comes from the office-workers working on Johnston street. I...

My second visit to Tao's. The six-course set lunch (the only thing available) was $38 as opposed to $58 for a seven-course dinner. The selection of dishes available for lunch was slightly more limited, but those not included for lunch were dishes we'd tried previously anyway. The lunch menu was pretty much the same as my previous dinner visit, minus the chawanmushi. Instead of the chawanmushi as the extra dinner dish, they offered 'Tao's Special Rice Meatball'. My choice of dishes were: Starter: Raw Beef Nigiri Main: Hokkaido Style Miso Hotpot Desert: Tao’s Style Sesame Macaron Because I...
