On a very cold and wet Melbourne day, mum and I ventured into Table by S to feast on Korean cuisine. It was a quiet restaurant that day - a result of both the early time of arrival and terrible weather. Table by S describes itself as a contemporary Korean restaurant with Latin American, Japanese and American influences and it has a cosy and inviting fit out with a decent amount of spacing between tables. Our two tapas were the seasonal grilled scallops and simmered premium pork belly. The...

I managed to try different pizzas this time - the San Daniele and ai Porcini. The San Daniele had a very tomatoey flavour, but it was mellowed out by the mozzarella, and the truffle oil was wonderful with the mushrooms. I also quite liked the farro salad, which had great textures and a nice punchiness from the goats cheese. On Fridays and Saturdays, Hellenic Republic offers up a $12 takeaway lunch special, which is booked over the phone. At the moment the special is only being offered from its Brunswick store. There was the comforting, char-grilled aroma of flame licked ingredients paired with flavoursome and juicy chicken, fresh tzatziki and fat potato chips. I was particularly impressed with the grain salad (which included pomegranate,...

Ma's Dumpling Den recently came under new management followed by a renovation and renewal of the menu. The chicken pho wasn't too bad and there was a decent amount of ingredients, though the broth didn't have the same level of complexity as there was at somewhere like Pho Nom. Placed in a quiet street, Lolo and Wren has been a local favourite for quite a while. Since I was in the area I thought I'd pop in to see how good it really was. The Drunken Swine "Pork Bun" was highly recommended by the waitress and I put in an order for one after she allayed my concerns about it being overly sweet, as pork buns tend to be. This was sooo good. The shoulder had been broken up a bit but was still in nice tender and...
