Abbotsford Convent Supper Market, Abbotsford

Today I visited to the Abbotsford Convent Supper Market, which is held on Friday nights during summer months. There were a few stalls open, which included vendors selling candles, jewellery, organic dried fruits and handmade leather notebooks. Lentils As Anything, Kappaya and Convent Bakery were open and busy with patrons. There weren’t as many food stalls as I thought there’d be. I really wanted to try the gozleme stall, but it didn’t make an appearance. Other than the restaurants, there was a Mexican stall, Himalayan Sherpa (which has a restaurant on Bridge St) and a juice stall. The Convent Bakery didn’t have their usual dinner menu, only pizza and the special gnocchi being cooked out the front.

We sampled the pumpkin gnocchi with napoli sauce, briyani from Himalayan Sherpa and salmon pizza.

The texture of the gnocchi wasn’t very smooth and the serve was small for $10. The briyani was also $10 and tasted much better. The salmon pizza wasn’t bad, but it looked like a margherita pizza with maybe 70 grams of salmon on top. Mum thinks it was cured salmon. It was $12 ($2 more than the margherita) and I would have liked to see more salmon on it, or at least an option to add more salmon. The parents were overly critical of the few burnt edges, but it was wood-fired after all and it wasn’t like we were at a fine-dining restaurant. The pizza dough was, however, very good and the base was nice and thin with not too much cheese.
