Paleo cafes are still scarce, though their numbers are slowly growing. This addition to the fold arrived mid-last year, when co-founders Tom Davidson and Jacob Burke sought to carry over their passion for clean eating into a new eatery. This eatery is Patch, located within the heritage-restored channel 9 studio in Richmond. A little walk past the front gate brought us to a long and narrow space, with an open kitchen occupying much of it. Indoors seating was limited, but there were outdoors tables available too, today occupied by...

After an unexpectedly short day of uni I dropped into The Fair Food Store on the way home for a quick brunch. There was very much of a hang-out vibe here with plenty of regulars coming in for both food and their coffee, made using Wide Open Road coffee beans. An all-day breakfast and lunch menu created by chef Dan Sawansak (formerly of Movida) means there's plenty of choice for people looking to fill their belly. I decided to go for something a little different: the pork belly crepe. Two perfectly...

Sun Moth Canteen and Bar recently opened as a venture between Luke Mutton and Kylie Mackinlay (founders and former owners of Dead Man Espresso and Common Galaxia), Jackson Duxbury and Tod La Mar. True to its name, Sun Moth's fit-out is clean, minimalistic and canteen-like with long tables and benches. An indoors projector, which today was screening snowsports and music videos, give it a casual vibe perfect for relaxing and lingering. Sun Moth has been earmarked on my list for a while so I was excited when I...

Jean and Sarin have created an interesting space full of bright colours and simple furniture at Nora. It's almost part-cafe part-art gallery with a table adorned with the ingredients used for the charcoal tarts available that day. Seating is limited, giving it an air of something really special. Nora is located right next to the post office. I didn't see any signage indicating its location clearly (or maybe I was too distracted by the brief interlude of warm, sunny weather during my walk), but the presence of outdoors tables...

It was my first time venturing into Maling Rd, even though I've driven past on Canterbury Rd so many times. I was surprised to find such a quaint shopping village inside! Bambaleros is a Mexican/Spanish cafe that offers brunch with a twist and also have their own coffee roaster. I chose the Flamenco Eggs - Spanish baked eggs, packed with a mild Chorizo, roast capsicum, tomato and topped with spiced breadcrumbs served with garlic infused sour dough. The menu description didn't mention its cheese topping, and I was surprised...
