Kew seems to be a little quiet on the foodie front, particularly when you consider all the new openings popping up in surrounding suburbs like Richmond and Camberwell. Miss Kasumi quietly opened up late last year, taking its place on the corner that used to be the home of Tassal's outlet store and cafe....

Something exciting has arrived in Kew - Hiatus looks set to shake up the local brunch scene. Taking over from the pizza restaurant before it, they've opened out the dog-friendly courtyard at the back, which also eases access from the large carpark. It's quite an open space, and a large skylight introduces plenty of light into the room....

The Julien Moussi steam train continues on, and Mount Waverley is the next destination. Stanley is a little cosier than his other cafes, but still has a covered courtyard - a great spot to enjoy the occasional sunny day we get during Melbourne winter....

It's been open for 3 years, and it's a wonder I haven't heard of Linger Patisserie earlier. Situated in a church, the cafe was opened as a result of the owner's passion for cakes. Apart from cakes, there's regular brunch fare available too. Their Creamy Seafood Pasta comes with grilled or torched shellfish and is relatively light pasta dish. Confit Duck Leg comes with a spaetzle that looks almost like Asian-style eggs, and the duck is easily deboned....
