Livingroom was a much more casual restaurant than I expected. The quaint space looked a bit like a converted house, with floorboards, paintings and mismatched tables and chairs. Normally it's open for lunch and dinner, but on weekends they offer (an all-day?) breakfast.   I had previously looked up the online sample menu to pick what I wanted, but unfortunately the menu on the day was different. I was going to get a braised ox cheek dish but instead went for the special of the day. - Me: Pancetta-wrapped Leg of Chicken...

Since it was dinner-time (and quite late by the time we got a table), the only options I had tonight were the charred lamb ribs ($16), scotch fillet or fish of the day (both $29). I didn't feel like ribs so I picked the fish dish, which was pan-fried barramundi with fennel, cherry tomatoes and rocket. There was a decent sized portion of barramundi on the plate, and maybe a whole bulb of fennel cut into wedges. The barramundi was fresh and thankfully not overcooked. I'm not big on fennel because...

After a weekend trip to the Grampians we dropped into the Royal Mail Hotel for lunch on the way home. The bar has the cheapest menu options, but it isn't open on Mondays so we ate in the bistro instead. Dad ordered the special of the day, which was a beef short-rib with a dashi glaze, capsicum, a leafy veggie related to cabbage and a long, bulbous shaped plant (I forget the...

This cafe is situated in the Brambuk National Park & Cultural Centre, Halls Gap. After quickly browsing through their menu we went with the tasting platter. The platter came with a warmed damper roll, garden salad with feta, four different meats (clockwise starting from top left: duck, crocodile, emu sausage, kangaroo), a native tomato relish and a chutney. We also sampled different types of Australian herbal teas (lemon myrtle, wattleseed and another one). Of the meats presented, the only one we hadn't tried before was the emu. It...

The groupon menu was more limited than the normal menu, but fortunately for me, the dishes I was interested in were still included. The entrees: - Caramelised Onion, Goat Cheese and Almond Raviolo with Reggiano foam - BBQ Baby Octopus with Mayonnaise - I don't remember the exact name of the dish, but it looked like steamed chicken. Apparently it tasted like Chinese steamed chicken. The mains: - Pork Belly with chilli caramel sauce, two types of puree, salad - 250gm Gippsland Fresh Eye Fillet with horseradish butter Mum quite enjoyed her raviolo, but said the...
