Reunions call for celebrations, and celebrations over food are always up my alley. So we found ourselves at Miss Fitzy's: a bar and restaurant on Fitzroy Street, right near the beach. The menu at Miss Fitzy's focuses on bar snacks, sharing plates and shared mains, though there are a few individual mains available also. Sun Moth Canteen and Bar recently opened as a venture between Luke Mutton and Kylie Mackinlay (founders and former owners of Dead Man Espresso and Common Galaxia), Jackson Duxbury and Tod La Mar. Jean and Sarin have created an interesting space full of bright colours and simple furniture at Nora. It's almost part-cafe part-art gallery with a table adorned with the ingredients used for the charcoal tarts available that day. Seating is limited, giving it an air of something really special. Walking through to the end of a little alley just next to the Shell station I came to this little oasis of food and coffee. The Vertue of the Coffee Drink is in such a random location that it's almost like finding goodies in an Easter egg hunt. The front counter has a cabinet full of sweet treats such as cookie sandwiches from Butterbing Cookies, scrolls by Kwak Scrolls, doughnuts from Matt Forbes, pastries from Noisette. Located not too far from the CBD, Element Restaurant doubles as an wedding and event space. I attended a wedding reception here, which provided me the opportunity to try out a number of dishes.
