For dinner we tried a bistro recommended by both the hotel and the tourist info centre, called Bistro de l’Octroi. [caption id="attachment_5859" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Foie Gras[/caption] Mum was the only one who ordered an entrée. The duck foie gras (€12) was quite rich and I could taste the liver flavour. I didn’t try any, but mum said the square jelly was quite salty. The plate also came with caramelised onion, crushed walnut bits and salt. The menu descriptions for our dishes were: “Le Pigeonneau de Racan en deux cuissons, les supremes rotis sur la peau, just chataigne/truffe, les cuises confites au miel de Touraine et sarriette” (€23) “Magret de canard aux figues en crumble salé, Parmentier au foie gras” (€19.90) “La grande assiette plancha - Travers de porc croustillant, Piece de boeuf tendre et volaille rotie, puree au beurre faite maison & dessert au choix” (€23.80) “Le Grand - Dessert tout chocolat” (€15) [caption id="attachment_5813" align="aligncenter" width="456"] Pork Rilettes w. We had the duck again and also a seafood platter for two (€55) because mum hadn’t seen seafood platters that cheap before, or at least for a very long time. The duck didn’t taste as good as the one last night. [caption id="attachment_5807" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Seafood Platter for 2[/caption] The seafood platter came with 12 oysters, 2 clams, 4 praires (some sort of small clam), 4 dog cockles (amandes de mer), 4 mussels, 14 bulots (a type of sea snail), 200g shrimp, 8 prawns and 2 langoustines (yabbies?). We were...

27/12/13 We were staying in an apartment near rue Les Petits Carreaux and rue Montorgueil, where there were a lot of bakeries, fruit shops and cafes. We visited the Stohrer bakery where we bought a mini beignet and a muffin-shaped feuilette agrume that was sort of like brioche, tasted a bit like palmier and had a crispy outer. The feuillete agrume had pieces of preserved orange and lemon inside. Stohrer is the oldest patisserie in Paris, having opened in 1730. Apparently Nicholas Stohrer invented the baba au rhum, which...

La Crêperie was on the way to Lafayette in a passageway called Passage des Panoramas. Mum and dad got meal specials (formule). Mum had an emmental cheese crêpe with salad and a butter and sugar crêpe (menu rapide, €9.70). Dad's crêpe had egg, emmental and ham and it also came with a butter and sugar crêpe and a 200ml bowl of cold apple cider (formule 1, €11.60). My crêpe had smoked salmon, crème fraiche and raw shallots (€11.50). All the savoury crêpes were galletes, which I prefer over...
