26 Nov Yelp #Iknowcoffee Launch at Belleville Melbourne

Yelp has just launched their #IKnowCoffee campaign to align themselves with Australia’s growing coffee culture and to spread the word about our favourite cafes and coffee places. To celebrate, an espresso martini night with Mr Black was arranged at Belleville.

Mr. Black is an intense, bitter, cold press coffee liqueur, which was developed over 9 months, and is produced by hand in small batches. Three different specialty single origin arabica beans from Papua New Guinea, Ethiopia, and Brazil are used, and each bean is roasted separately in order to produce the desired caramelisation and flavour profile. The resulting liqeur is balanced, with a slight citrus flavour, and notes of toffee and marmalade. The espresso martini certainly was strong, but it had such a satisfying coffee flavour.

Chargrilled Corn with Toasted Coconut and Spiced Rum Yoghurt

Some bites were provided by Belleville. The chargrilled corn was juicy and sweet, but I was expecting the topping to be made of some sort of crumb. Instead, I discovered it was coconut, which I personally wasn’t a fan of, but others loved.

Kushiyaki Meatballs – Organic Beef and Pork Meatballs, Jack Cheddar, Miso and Dark Beer Teriyaki

The Kushiyaki meatballs were made of organic beef and pork, Jack Cheddar, miso and dark beer teriyaki. They definitely piled on the umami ingredients here and it showed; the meatballs were absolutely packed with flavour.

Saltwater Brined Free Range Chicken with Hot Spicy Ssamjang, Coriander, Ginger and Chilli, Liu Kang Fireball Sauce

The main event was Belleville’s signature rotisserie chicken. The saltwater brined, roasted free range chicken came with a number of different sauces: a mild coriander, ginger and chilli sauce, hot spicy ssamjang, and an even hotter Liu Kang Fireball sauce. You could see bits of chilli in the Liu Kang Fireball, and it was very, very hot. The chicken itself was extremely juicy and had a beautifully seasoned, crispy skin.
