19 May MC Dumpling, Footscray
MC Dumpling may be known for its handmade dumplings, but there’s more to it than that. Its extensive range of dishes also includes a dedicated menu for Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine.
After placing our order we realise that most of the dishes we’ve chosen lean heavily towards the spicy side. The only dish without chilli are the tasty Boiled Pork and Chinese Cabbage Dumplings, and they’re bursting with juices (literally). The Sliced Beef and Ox Tongue in Chilli Sauce will certainly awaken the palate, and though the Sichuan Eggplant has a slightly uneven coating, the eggplant itself is nice and tender. Seasoned Mongolian Lamb Ribs, a special of the day, slide neatly off the bone and there are areas of crispy skin capping juicy meat. We couldn’t go past one of my favourite Sichuan dishes, Fish Fillet Chilli Soup. There’s plenty of softly cooked fish in a beautifully fragrant broth that has a good kick, but isn’t mind-numbingly hot.
Whether you’re up for dumplings or their other fare, the serving sizes at MC Dumplings will not leave you hungry.
