Hoho’s Canteen is a new-ish store located within the Melbourne University Parkville campus, next to Pronto’s Pizza in the Union House building.

Quinoa and purple cabbage; chickpeas, broccolli, spinach; mixed grain, sunflower seed and almond salad

Its offerings include a daily soup, two types of pasta, coffee as well as a vegan lunchbox ($9). Today’s salads were quinoa and purple cabbage, potatoes, chickpeas broccolli and spinach and a mixed grain, sunflower seed and almond salad. The grains I was able to identify were lentils and possibly bulghur. It also had very finely diced carrots. There were three sauces we could choose from: yoghurt, salsa verde and a vinaigrette. I picked yoghurt for the mixed grains and salsa verde for the greens. The lunchbox was actually kind of expensive, especially because the person serving me gave me very little quinoa, instead picking off cabbage pieces from the top of the platter. I suppose I could have opted to exclude that particular salad. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo before eating all the potato.
