Grill’d, Hawthorn

A2 and I took a trip to Grill’d to use an Entertainment Book voucher before it expired. A2 ordered a Garden Goodness veggie burger ($11.50), whilst I decided to go for one of the three new burgers on the menu: Hot Hombre ($12.50). It’s a chicken burger with spicy black bean salsa, cheese, avocado, tomato, Spanish onion and a tortilla chip. After flashing my student ID I also managed to score a free drink (available on Mondays and Tuesdays). The veggie pattie was very… green. Maybe because I’m more used to seeing veggie patties based on chickpeas. Despite me requesting that the cheese be omitted, I still found a slice inside. The Hot Hombre was spicier than what I was expecting but it was a pleasant surprise. The avocado helped add a different dimension to what would otherwise be just a spicy burger by adding some creamy, cooling relief, and the tortilla chip supplied a nice contrasting texture. The heat might have made me subconsciously consume the burger too quickly rather than chew thoughtfully, but I still enjoyed it. It was my first chicken burger from Grill’d and I’d give it a thumbs up!
