27 May Dribbles Burgers, Essendon
Basketball fans would feel right at home at Dribbles Burgers. Silhouette decals, hoops set into the walls, netting and bright yellow lighting all add to the atmosphere. The tables look they’ve been made out of stadium court flooring, and there are even games played on the big screen to enjoy while scoffing down your meal.
Burger names are inspired by basketball greats, and I try a Jordan Royale with extra bacon. It’s filled with a double beef pattie, tomato, lettuce, pickles, mustard, cheese and Dribbles sauce all in a toasted, buttered white bun. It looks like a promising burger, but the thin patty doesn’t have much flavour on its own, and it’s a bit overdone.
The chips, on the other hand, are a slam dunk. There are two versions of loaded fries to choose from, one with chilli beef, jalapenos and cheese, and the other with bacon and cheese. I go with the latter, and receive a basket full of crunchy fries, cheese sauce, crispy bacon and spring onions. There’s plenty of gooey cheese sauce to go with all the crispy seasoned fries and I tell myself my waistline won’t appreciate the whole serve, but I pretty much finish it all anyway.
Although the burger didn’t quite impress this time, those cheese and bacon chips made the visit worthwhile.
