Amao strawberries from Fukuoka are supposedly famous. The small tub of 4.5 strawberries was ¥198 from the Parco supermarket. Larger punnets were ¥580 – about 7AUD. The strawberries were a very pale, red colour and the inside was also very pale – almost completely white – but they were worth the expense as they were incredibly sweet. There are also Amao strawberries that look and taste more like the ones at home. Later in HK I spotted 500g punnets of imported Fukuoka Amao strawberries selling for nearly 20AUD each. [gallery...

Got to try another type of mango because they were $1 each at Toscano's. I liked the Honey Gold mangoes better than Calypso. Their texture is similar to Kensington Pride and do seem to have a sweet, honey-like taste....

Visited the Queen Vic Markets today to check prices on quinoa. While searching I saw blackberries, two 125g punnets for $5. I haven't tried fresh blackberries before so I thought I'd give them a go. Can't really describe what they taste like, but the sweet ones have a more intense 'berry taste' than sweet blueberries....

This is the first time I've intentionally bought and tried a variety of mango other than Kensington Pride, mainly because they're on special at Safeway but also because mum isn't the one buying fruit this week. The board at Safeway said Calypso mangoes have a small seed and firm flesh. Maybe it wasn't ripe yet, but it was firmer and not as sweet as Kensington Pride. Perhaps I should have waited for it to ripen a bit; it look pale on the inside but I don't know if...
