When I perused the menu a few weeks ago there was only one dish I was interested in trying, which was the smoked salmon omelette. After contacting the cafe and being informed that they have an all-day breakfast I settled on trying my dish of choice at a lunchtime. I came pretty early in the day so there weren't many dine-in customers, though there were a lot of people coming in for takeaway coffee. I ordered a Ropa Vieja arepa, which was "Old Clothes” beef served with guacamole and picadillo. The beef wasn't melt-in-your-mouth tender, but it was still soft, moist and very flavoursome. Even though I walk past, or at least look at, this shopfront at least once a week, it took me years to realise that the name of this restaurant had changed from Dessert House Eatery to D House Cafe. In fact, I didn't discover this until today, much to my embarrassment. It's the pre-June rush-to-use-up-all-the-Entertainment-Book-vouchers time again. I created a custom spud using a base of sweet potato and toppings of warm braised pulled lamb shoulder, spinach, quinoa mix, broccoli and pumpkin. The base price of the potato is $4.90, meat toppings are $3 and most others are $1 each. There's also condiments at the cashier where you can add salt, pepper, chilli flakes and sauces.
