It's not often that you hear of non-profit restaurants, but Feast of Merit is such a place. 100% of their profits go to YGAP, an organisation that runs social enterprises such as this one. YGAP supports local organisations in Australia, Kenya and South Africa which have the aim of reaching communities disadvantaged by poverty, empowering them to become self-sustainable. Feast of Merit features a contemporary Middle Eastern menu with a seasonal, sustainable and ethical farm-to-table philosophy. There's a distinct breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, and since we visited during...

After some unexpected delays, Frankie Says is finally open for business. Part of the new, aptly named Sanctuary apartment complex, it's hidden away, right by the Yarra with pleasant and peaceful view of both trees and water. There's plenty of outdoors seating under the cover of umbrellas, and the interior features high-ceiling solid timber pillars, white washed timber, striking pendant lights and full-height glass windows to allow plenty of light in.   [caption id="attachment_10775" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Antipasto - Bocconcini, Semi Sundried Tomatoes, Speck Prosciutto, Bresaola, Sopressa Salami, Giardiniera, Marinated Olives,...

I didn't even know Bayte had closed down until I saw the Son in Law shop signs start to pop up. I was a little sad to see Bayte go, but having heard interesting things about this newcomer I paid it a visit one late night. Tony Rungapradit and his wife, Oh, opened up Son in Law after owning Chapel Street’s Ayatana. The menu offers contemporary and affordable Thai cuisine, and a bar. It's retained the split-level design and outdoor seating area from Bayte. As well as creative...

Opening right on time, and in conjunction with the grand reveal of Eastland's redevelopment, is Hunter & Barrel - the newest venture from the Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, who are also responsible for other meat-focussed eateries including The Meat & Wine Co and Ribs & Burgers. Nestled within the new precinct of Eastland, Hunter & Barrel takes the basic concept of the 'hunter’s way', and transforms it into a modern and sophisticated bar and restaurant. Smokers, a coal grill and a spit rotisserie pump out soups, slow-cooked meats, pies,...
