With a free afternoon, I found myself free to explore a bit more of the cafe scene in Camberwell. Legacy has a very discreet, non-descript shop front with full-length tinted windows, and after surviving the horror that is Camberwell Junction, I drove past it a few times before eventually realising it was next to Beacons. Walking through the front door your eyes might be immediately drawn to the house made donuts right at the window. Unfortunately I have no photos to show you, but they looked delicious. Apart from...

Masak Ku opened just last year, close to Camberwell station. Simon and Mary Lee have presented to us a more upmarket restaurant experience for Malaysian cuisine, rather than sticking to the more common casual, hawker style of eatery. Taking over from a Chinese restaurant that previously occupied the site, shades were removed from the chandeliers, brightening up the room and providing a warm and inviting dining space. The restaurant is available also for functions of up to nearly 60 people. Masak Ku is Malay for 'my cooking', and the...

Red Robyn is a unique cafe that aims to cater for people with food intolerances. All their dishes are gluten and soy free and their menu comes complete with a handy legend denoting which menu items would be suitable for various diets. Her veggie stack consisted of a sweet potato rosti, zucchini, eggplant, pumpkin, mushroom, balsamic reduction, pepita seed pesto and roquette ($16.50). She particularly enjoyed the sweet potato rosti. I had...

Collective Espresso is located just off Bourke Road, next to Camberwell Station. Numerous prints lining the walls and the bag hooks for staff give this cafe a warm, homely and welcoming vibe. There are bars seats along the window and near the kitchen, one small table and a long communal table that could accommodate at least 16 people. Today I had the emu burger, which came with cabbage remoulade, cheddar, mustard and pickles on a brioche bun. The tasty emu pattie was slightly dry, particularly around the edges, but the cheddar and...

Sushi for the third day in a row! I'm sure my iodine levels will be fine; I don't normally eat this much sushi. Like last time, the ingredients were fresh and the rice was tasty, packed nicely and didn't take precedence over the other ingredients. Unlike last time, there wasn't any salmon belly. Mum and I wondered if the normal salmon and salmon belly were mixed up last time, which was why we got some in our trays. Though I'm not big on tamago, the tamago used in their...
