For $55, The Waiting Room offers a daily afternoon tea with Jing Tea and Vittoria Coffee and featuring the usual categories of hot savouries, sandwiches, sweets and scones. We started with the top tier of crab and leek vol-au-vent and ricotta cheese filled zucchini flowers. The zucchini flowers were well received and it was a bit of a shame there weren't more warm savoury treats to enjoy. Coombe: The Melba Estate is the former residence of Dame Nellie Melba, consisting of seven acres of beautiful gardens and buildings and first purchased in 1909. Madame Melba (born Helen Porter Mitchell) was the first Australian opera singer to gain international recognition. For $25, visitors can embark on a guided tour around the gardens followed by morning or afternoon tea. All proceeds go towards maintenance of the estate. The Peninsula runs a well-known High Tea every afternoon. We ordered high tea for three and shared. High tea for two people is slightly cheaper than it is for one, but there’s the same proportion of food. The food arrived in a three-tiered platter.
