Being a cold winter's day I wanted something to warm me up, but still wanted to enjoy Shimbashi's wonderful soba. As a compromise, I had the Kamo Seiro Soba, which is cold soba served with a warm broth with duck slices ($19). This is different to Kamonan Soba, which is where soba is served in the warm broth with slices of duck. Also in the broth were some pieces of tofu and mushrooms. Like on my previous visits, the soba noodles were enjoyably nutty with a slightly chewy...

Wagaya is a restaurant chain from the same group that brought us Sushi Hotaru and to celebrate its opening, it was offering 50% off the whole menu. Wagaya is also located in Mid City Arcade and it's accessed via elevator through to level 3. The restaurant spans two levels with the lower level filled with private booths and the upper mezzanine level having a mix of both booths and open table seating. As the restaurant got busier with eager bargain-hunters the noise level rose and echoed through the...

Located on the corner of Hardware Lane and Little Lonsdale St, Gypsy & Pig is a kurobuta (aka black pig or Berkshire pork) and tonkatsu specialist. It's a cozy little place mainly made up of bar seats arranged around the kitchen. [gallery type="rectangular" ids="5287,5285"] Gypsy & Pig's lunch menu is unsurprisingly composed of mainly kurobuta...

I finally made it to Rice Workshop after wanting to try it before it even opened. Marketed as a rice bar, their main offerings are rice bowls with various toppings (beef, chicken, curry and salmon), however, they also do a few udon and salad dishes. You can pick other sides to go with your meal including miso soup, takoyaki, edamame, karaage, spring rolls, tempura and daifuku. These are kept in a warm cabinet and a chilled cabinet between the ordering station and the cashier. There's also a complete DIY...

J Cafe is a small Japanese restaurant offering sushi, rice dishes, noodles, bento boxes, salads and most famously, sushi burgers. Sushi burgers are basically two rice patties filled with various ingredients and wrapped with a rectangular sheet of nori. What I really wanted to try was the soft shell crab sushi burger, but apparently there's a worldwide shortage of soft shell crab. J Cafe only have limited quantities available every day and they'd already sold out by the time I arrived. Instead, I got an salmon aburi sushi burger,...
