13 Aug Bosozoku HQ, South Yarra
Burger bars and sake dens are not exactly easy to come by, especially ones that look like this. Taking inspiration from the biker bars and bosozoku subculture in Japan, Bosozoku HQ comes complete with karaoke, a Nintendo 64 room, pool table and a dry-ice ‘onsen’.
Burgers are a bit different at Bosozoku, and not just because of their colourful brioche buns. Unique fillings include katsu pork, lobster, wagyu patties that come with a charred flavour, imparted by the hotplate, or my personal favourite, the crumbed swordfish steak that comes in the Die By The Sword. The burgers can be had in a combo deal as part of a ‘bento’ with edamame, fries, miso soup and salad. Add-ons like pork gyoza and kaarage can be ordered to further flesh out your order.
You might finish with the “Pinky Finger” Deep-fried Ice Cream with Raspberry and Vanilla, which is more of a cinnamon bun slightly hollowed out and filled with ice cream. Matcha green tea cheesecake is another sweet option.
Not just for tasty food, Bosozoku HQ is a cool and edgy venue that you’ll find just off Chapel St.
