23 May Eat’aliano By Pino, Windsor
Eat’aliano by Pino is a casual eatery serving traditional Italian fare. Hanging planter boxes, exposed globes and timber tables brings a modern touch to the restaurant. Owner Pino Russo, also co-owner of La Svolta in Hampton, had a vision to bring the regional flavours of Italy to our doorstep. Only a short walk from Chapel Street, Eat’aliano by Pino uses produce from the Prahran markets to create their dishes, which might hail from the Piedmont region, or be prepared in the Naples cooking style.
Starters include super smooth Mozzarella di Bufala and prosciutto crudo, tender deep fried calamari seasoned with lemon zest, or the refined Insalata di polpo e patate, an octopus and potato salad with garlic, parsley and olive oil. The tasty wagyu bresaola with celery, grana padano and a drizzle of truffle oil is a standout.
A woodfire oven has been brought in from Italy, capable of cooking pizza in 50 seconds. The bases are thin and slighty crisp with a pleasant chew. The simple toppings of the Margherita with its San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella and basil showcases the quality of the pizza bases. For something a bit more unusual there’s also the montanara, from Naples. These airy, tasty puffs of fried pizza dough are topped with grana padano, napoli sauce and basil.
Mains available include freshly made pasta, such as the Pumpkin Gnocchi made with Amaretto, pistachio, ginger and pumpkin cream. The gnocchi are super soft morsels, though the accompanying sauce is a bit sweet. Also on offer are a selection of meat dishes like sous vide rack of lamb, which is perfectly cooked, soft and tender.
Eat’aliano by Pino is one to visit for quality, authentic Italian cuisine in a casual setting.
